Opinion – Time For Smartwatches?
With millions of smartwatches forecast to ship this year some people believe these watches will be the next big thing. Most of these watches are able to connect wirelessly to your phone or tablet and run loads of apps. For instance you can control music on your phone during fitness without the need of puling your phone out of your pocket. Although we are sure not all people require that from a watch as their phone offers already more than enough functionality, there is also a chance that there are a lot of people who like wearing such a watch.
A smartwatch can also notify you when calls, texts and instant messages come in. Although this is a nice functionality we don’t believe they add much value to your life, since the need for this function is not completely clear.
Samsung smartwatches are equipped with a lot of nice features including a camera and is in fact the only watch currently on the market which can actually make a phonecall. Samsung clearly aims on fitness to justify the existence these watches. The Samsung smartwatch could come in handy during fitness though as it has an integrated music player, heart monitor, stopwatch and timer.
So should you already buy a smartwatch? You might want to wait until the prices come down for these watches since they still feel more like a gadget. The watches are priced between $150 and $300, which is perhaps still quite high for what you get.
Expect more from smartwatches on the market as Apple is working on a smartwatch of its own. If there is one company who can suprise us, it must be Apple with their iWatch. Rumours are just out that LG will be the sole supplier of flexible displays for iWatch.
